This 16-week online short course in Financial Management for Non-Financial Managers will introduce you to the world of finance. It will provide you with an understanding of financial management theories, combined with knowledge and practical skills at an introductory level in the field of financial accounting.

This short course is an exciting introduction to financial management and focuses on the areas of:

COURSE INFORMATION:

This online short course consists of eight modules, and each module has two units:

  1. Introduction to Financial Management (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
  2. Source documents and budgets (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
  3. Organisational transactions (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
  4. The General Ledger and Trial Balance (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
  5. Subsidiary Journals (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
  6. Petty cash (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
  7. Bank reconciliations (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
  8. Auditing and organisation (Unit 1 and Unit 2)
ASSESSMENT:

There are two types of assessment in this online short course:

  • Formative assessments in each of the two units, for each of the eight modules
  • One final summative assessment, at the end of the course, once you have worked through all eight modules
COURSE EXIT OUTCOMES:
Once you have completed this online short course you will be able to:

  • Explain the essential definitions, terms and concepts of financial management.
  • Explain and complete source documents.
  • Discuss budgeting and its role in planning, control and decision-making.
  • Explain the concepts of budget control and prepare various forms of budgets.
  • Interpret and apply the effects that accounting transactions have on the accounting equation.
  • Apply the principles of the double entry system to draw up a General Ledger and a Trial Balance.
  • Discuss the different types of subsidiary journals and draw up a Cash Receipts Journal and a Cash Payments Journal.
  • Record the reimbursement of Petty Cash in the Cash Payments Journal using the varying balance and imprest systems.
  • Prepare a bank reconciliation statement by using a Cash Receipts and a Cash Payments Journal.
  • Describe the strategy used when conducting an audit.
